NBA

It's Been 9 Years & We're Talking 'Bout Practice?

Any excuse to talk about Allen Iverson, the one and only AI in my book, I will take. And if it's an opportunity to reference his famous "practice" rant, then even better.

SportsCenter informed its viewers this morning that today marks the anniversary of several notable events in the NBA. My favorite of these moments is featured below. If you can believe it, AI's infamous "practice" press conference took place 9 years ago today. How times flies. Oh how I miss you, Allen Iverson.

Fashion Defense: Amar'e Stoudemire

There's probably not much that Amar'e Stoudemire is smiling about these days. The season of his team, the New York Knicks, ended in humiliation after the team was swept 4-0 by the Boston Celtics. He battled back pain during the series to try to help his team win, but alas, to no avail.

Instant Karma's Gonna Get You, Kobe

Karma played out in front of our eyes during this, the first weekend of the NBA playoffs. In the Lakers game against the New Orleans Hornets, Kobe Bryant injured his neck after falling and running his head into a chair after a play.

Who is the NBA's Best Dressed?

Sports Illustrated asked its audience to help select the best dressed player in the NBA from a choice of 5 basketball stars via their Facebook page. I liked the question, but simply filling in a circle didn't capture all that I want to say. You can't limit me to a bubble, SI.com. I must speak!

The nominees, as selected by SI.com are:

Lebron James

The King James versus Cleveland Saga Continues

The good news about the end of the football season is that the NFL isn't the only league chock full o' crazy this season. The NBA's  drama started before the season even began, with LeBron's Decision. Actually, Lebron, the Miami Heat and the Cleveland Cavaliers have accounted for a good 50% of the NBA's drama. And that is a mild estimate.

Bad Attitude Mash-Up: You Talking About Practice? You Talking about Playoffs?

It was another rough Sunday for The Sports Muse. A few posts featuring updates from the past few days in the world of sports are due, but until then, reader Joe Camp shared a video so amazing I had to share it with you. It is a compilation of some of the best lines in sports history put to music. This video is heavy on the NFL side but includes the important presence of Allen Iverson's infamous "practice" sound bite. The video has been on the interwebs for over a year so you may have seen it before, but if so it's worth another look.

Ladies and Gentlemen, We Have a Winning Streak!

It's not easy being a fan of Philadelphia sports. Our plight become less miserable after the Phillies won the World Series in 2008, but there remainl 3 other major sports team that were starved for championship.

Jerk of the Month: Tony Parker

Eva Longeria seems to be darned close to being the perfect woman. Great figure, beautiful, talented, smart, personable. Her already fabulous life seemed to get disgustingly more perfect when she married San Antonio Spurs basketball star Tony Parker. The wedding, by the way, took place in a castle. In France. And Tony speaks French. And is super tall and handsome Yeah. Perfection

LeBron, I'm Not Mad at Ya

The country has gone a bit insane in its reaction to LeBron James having a primetime special on ESPN to announce his intentions in the NBA for the next several years. The Miami Heat won his affections, while the New York Knicks and his former home of Cleveland Cavs lost. Cleveland should be used to losing, so I'm not sure of the big deal there. That's part of why the self-appointed "King James" chose to go to Miami. But LeBron jerseys in that city were burned, murals torn down.
