Dose of Crazy: Ron Artest Wants World Peace As Part of His Name

It seems as though you have to be in a certain income bracket in order to attain a certain level of crazy. More likely, it's that income bracket that simply gets you the publicity of your insanity.

Do you know anyone who just changed their name for the heck of it? My point exactly.

There are oh-so-many recent examples. Prince didn't even do a name change--The Artist went with a symbol. In the world of sports, we all know about Chad Ochocinco. And now joining the fray is LA Lakers star Ron Artest.

It was discovered on Thursday that Artest will be changing his name to Metta World Peace.

I am not one to swear on my blogs, but are you sh*tting me? That seems the only appropriate response. Mr. Attack-ans-in-the-stands now wants the phrase "world peace as part of his name?

According to Yahoo! Sports, " 'Metta' apparently a word derived from the Buddhist religion and the Sanskrit language meaning 'friendliness,' 'benevolence' and all manner of other heartwarming descriptions."

You've got to hand it to him--that's much more thoughtful than what I would expect from the average celebrity name change. That fact, however, does not take away from the fact that it's still crazy.
