Ladies and Gentlemen, We Have a Winning Streak!

It's not easy being a fan of Philadelphia sports. Our plight become less miserable after the Phillies won the World Series in 2008, but there remainl 3 other major sports team that were starved for championship.

The Flyers have made it to the Stanley Cup finals. The Eagles...well, at least know they look like a real danger in the NFL with Mike Vick's success. But the Sixers. Oh my, the Sixers. They haven't been any kind of threat in the NBA since before Allen Iverson's first departure from the team in 2006. Since then, the Sixers and notoriously horrid New Jersey Nets are teams uttered in the same dismissive sentence. Not good. There was a brief moment of excitement when the original (and to my mind, only) AI returned to the Sixers last year, but since then it has been nothing but gloom for that team. No one expects them to win. Anything. They did put up a decent fight on Friday, losing to the Miami Heat by only a 9 points, 99-90 being the final score.

The following day, the Sixers convincingly defeated the New Jersey Nets 102-86. Yay, the Sixers won. But against the Nets? Not terribly exciting. If they can't beat the Nets, you're in trouble.

Talk about the Sixers game against the Portland Trailblazers featured curiosity as to whether the Sixers could put together the season's 1st winning streak. I don't think anyone actually expected it to happen. But the holiday season is one filled with miracles. The Philadelphia 76ers beat the Portland Trailblazers 88-79, achieving their 2nd victory in a row and starting their first winning streak of the 2010 season.

The Sixers record now stands at a horrific 5-13--1 less win than the New Jersey Nets. Any bit of light must be embraced. Two in a row. No small accomplishments for this team. Let's go, Sixers!
